Lorna and I were friends through our daughters playing on the same softball team, and I used to watch her work on her art in the bleachers while we were “watching” the games. Fascinated by a sculpture Lorna was working on one season, I wrote a poem called “Bound Feet” and sent it to her.

In March I met Kevin, a nonconformist with cats who studied English and psychology in college and didn’t seem put-off by my description of myself as a cranky bookworm.
I do so agree with Virginia Woolf where she says the most difficult thing about writing is getting your character from one room to the other. It’s so difficult. What are you going to say—she hopped, she moved, she crawled? You get sick of it, you just want to tip them through the wall without having to go into it.
